WTI Receives Audubon A

On Thursday, November 10th, 2016, WTI received the ‘Audubon A Award’ from The Massachusetts Audubon Society. The Audubon A is given to organizations and individuals whose efforts have bettered the quality of the environment. WTI was recognized for our reforestation work in Worcester for the past 7 years. This award is only given to one or two recipients in the entire state each year. We know that there are many environmentally focused agencies who do great work in Massachusetts so we feel particularly honored by receiving it.

Additionally, Senators Harriette Chandler and Michael Moore issued an Official Citation from the Commonwealth to congratulate us on receiving the Audubon A. We are very fortunate to have received so much encouragement for our work and thank the Massachusetts Senate for honoring us.

Thank you to all of the people who have helped us over the years with funding, partnership and guidance. Particularly, thank you to our Steering Committee and our community partners. And a special thank you to Tower Hill Botanic Garden who has taken us on as an independent program. WTI has been honored to receive our recent accolades on behalf of our community who cares about the trees!

Dear Ms. Knittle,

It is my great pleasure to inform you that the Worcester Tree Initiative has been selected by Mass Audubon as a recipient of its Audubon A Award. In doing so, we wish to acknowledge the work done to restore beauty and shade to neighborhoods throughout Worcester and surrounding towns as well as to effectively educate the community about the importance of tress and their stewardship.

Each year, the Audubon A may be given to an individual or group that has furthered the cause of conservation, environmental protection or has broadened the public awareness of the nature of Massachusetts. Past recipients have included EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy, Mayor Thomas M. Menino, Senator John H. Chaffee, Senator Edward M. Kennedy, the Essex County Greenbelt Association and the Massachusetts Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program.

The Audubon A Awards will be presented at our Annual Meeting on Thursday, November 10 at the Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts in Worcester at 4PM. I hope that you will be my special guest for the meeting and reception. My office will be in touch in the next few weeks with details about the meeting and to answer any questions that you may have.
