Each summer Worcester Tree Initiative waters the newly planted street trees and public trees with our Young Adult Forestry Team beginning in July. Thanks to our partnership with the Worcester Youth Center and Girls Inc, the generous financial support of the Massport Foundation as well as support from the City of Worcester Water Department and DPW&P, we several part time Young Adult Foresters and a Full Time Summer Supervisor.
YAF’s summer duties include watering 400 street trees, distributing watering educational materials to residents of Worcester, and caring for trees in Dodge Park, Knights of Columbus Park, Kendrick Field, Eagle Statue, and the West Boylston Street Beautification Project.
The YAF Program offers real world jobs skills training for students in high school and college. Our program also provides educational opportunities for our summer staff – teaching them basic tree pruning skills, providing them with tree identification skills, and teaching them about the history of Worcester’s urban forest. We always enjoy working with our summer staff and appreciate all of their hard work during the summer months. If you would like to help this program through a donation, kindly click on this link:
